Gender Spot On patriarchy - tunisian dialect

In our present day, a lot of issues related to social injustice are spread in our society creating disparity and social pressure. This leads to many complications as well as a halt in the development.

This imbalance affects the stability of society and constitutes an unfair social model that procures absolute power to certain groups. This unfair division plays a big role in crushing many marginalized populations.

This social model is, in fact, the source of a multitude of stereotypes based on social and gender roles attributed by our societies. It is also the primary reason for the repression of certain populations considered non-conforming to its values.

Through this project, funded by Hivos, in collaboration with Chouf and Mawjoudin, MOSAIC wishes to shed light on the dangers of patriarchy within our societies through a few examples, stereotypes and consequences that marginalised communities, women, and LGBT folk face everyday leading to their entrapment in environments that deprive them from their basic rights.

TRANS WOman speaks out

Notwithstanding the severity of SGBV against all women which includes both gender conforming women and women with non-conforming gender and/or sexual orientations, this video, first and foremost, hopes to underline firsthand experiences of women with non-conforming gender and/or sexual orientations living in Lebanon. Trans*Women face harsh discrimination on a daily basis, from physical violence to verbal abuse, from mockery to exclusion, not to mention the threats of bloodshed that they encounter. As part of our fight against SGBV, it is time for ALL women to challenge the standard prevailing narrative.

Impacts of the Syrian Civil War and Displacement on Diverse SOGIES Populations

This film focus on the tragedies and violations that Syrian Queer refugees have to go through due to displacement. This film is a part of the research that examines the impact of the Syrian War and attendant displacement on diverse SOGIE individuals and communities in Lebanon and Syria. It also interrogates the ways in which different national and international/multinational institutions have responded to the needs of refugees with diverse SOGIE, and how this has changed the normative environment around these issues – and also led to tensions within the diverse SOGIE community. Based on fieldwork in both countries, the project outputs include academic publications, policy papers and stakeholder workshops.

Gender Spot Bisexuality - Tunisian dialect

MOSAIC is aiming to reach one of its main goals, by the use of social media spots, disseminated among the general population in the MENA region and the LGBT communities. Ideas around sexual orientation, gender identity/ roles are at the core of every social attitude towards the LGBT community, for this reason, it will also be the content of our spots, using our wide network of advocates in the region, to come up with culturally tailored messages around the aforementioned subjects.

Funded by Hivos and In collaboration with “Mawjoudin We Exist” and “CHOUF minorities” this gender spot aim to deconstruct all myths and stereotypes about Bisexuality and correct related public misconceptions in Lebanon and Tunisia

Lesbian Woman speaks out

The year 2015 marks the 24th anniversary of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign. Since 1991, the campaign, spanning from the UN International Day of Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25th until Human Rights Day on December 10th, has given civil society organizations, political activists, and all-community groups, the opportunity to break the silence around Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

This year, MOSAIC and 1morecup media organization, as part of its fight against LGBTIQ human rights violations, have decided to stress not only the different forms of violence against women but also the gender essentialist approach that governs considerations of Survivors of Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).

Notwithstanding the severity of SGBV against all women, which includes both gender conforming women and women with non-conforming gender and/or sexual orientations, this video, first and foremost, hopes to underline firsthand experiences of women with non-conforming gender and/or sexual orientations living in Lebanon.

These women’s prospects for an equal opportunity at a dignified and free living have been controlled and limited by state, social, and educational institutions, medical professionals, and even their own families.

As part of our fight against SGBV, it is imperative that the voices of ALL women be heard to challenge the standard prevailing narrative of SGBV prevention.

Impact of revolution on the political participation of the queer community

This is a film that documents the queer presence in the Lebanese revolution that erupted on October 17, 2019. It assesses the impact of the revolution on the LGBTIQ+ community and highlights the hardships they faced while demanding their basic human rights, violated by a corrupt and oppressing system, in addition to their rights as queer individuals.
MOSAIC and GCRF are trying to capture the Impact of the revolution through evidence-based study. This study highlights the micro-aggression faced along with a queer presence in public spheres.

Diaries of a Trans refugee in Lebanon

Between hope and the projection for a better future, between solitude and sharing experiences, problems and achievements with others, between living in peace and the exposure to the worst kinds of physical and psychological violence, between receiving support from organizations and self-support, The love for life remains dominant and the smile remains as shining as the sunlight on Sarya’s face who fought pain, weakness and abuse, hoping for a better life away from the Arab World while keeping within her the love and nostalgia for the areas she used to love in Beirut.

Gender Spot Bisexuality - Lebanese dialect

We are witnessing a substantial rise in activities targeting the LGBT community in the MENA region, mainly because of the aggravating violence towards this community, initiated by conservative societies, increasing conservatism rooted in discriminative / non protective laws and regulations.

Yet most of these initiatives can be described as reactive, in an atmosphere of emergencies. Not undermining the need for this type of action, a wider vision compels us to look beyond the reaction into real social change efforts.

Most of the social attitudes towards the LGBT communities, which we are witnessing, come from a historically built set of myths and stereotypes around all major issues of sexuality and gender, translated into discriminative behaviors and dictating laws and regulations. Therefore, and in order to battle this acquired knowledge, we have a task of using cognition brining the battle to same level.

For this reason, MOSAIC is aiming to reach one of its main goals, by the use of social media spots, disseminated among the general population in the MENA region and the LGBT communities.
